Curatorial: Contemporary Art Purchase Program
The University of Maryland’s Contemporary Art Purchase program is a biannual experiential learning experience for students of diverse majors. The students apply and a small group is selected. Over the course of the academic year, students meet with me weekly to learn about the commercial art world, contemporary artists, and the concerns when building and maintaining an art collection. I lead students in trips and meetings with arts professionals, artists, commercial galleries, and institutions to gain hands-on experience. At the culmination of the program, students propose a selection of artwork to be purchased by the Stamp Student Union and put on display throughout the building.
Curatorial: Student-Curated Exhibitions
Every summer, The Stamp Gallery works with University of Maryland students to curate and execute an exhibition of professional artists. Students apply with a proposal of their exhibition, are selected, and then mentored through the process of creating a call for artworks (if applicable) or reaching out to artists, designing an exhibition, writing press releases, and installation.
Digital Art: Digital Site-Specific Installations
I worked with Anne Talman’s Digital Fine Art 4 AP senior students from the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in a monthlong workshop. Students were introduced to installation art and site-specific installation, and then tasked with using digital media or sculptural materials to turn their work into a piece that activated a specific site or location in the building. These projects also connected to their AP portfolio themes so they could be included in their portfolio. Please note these are still images for installations that often included video, animation, and sound as well as the visual media.
Visual Art: 2D Design for Non-Art Majors
Projects by Towson University students in 2D Process for Non-Art Majors. Students learned the elements and principles of design, and created hand drawn line and shape compositions, as well as digital photo collages reflecting value and texture, and color.
